DESCRIPTION:We’ve all been longing for those fairs and festivals we have missed all Spring and\, although we are not at the place where we can begin enjoying all that entails the fair atmosphere\, A Taste of Summer will provide a sampling of those things to come. \nField Day of the Past and Deep Fried\, Inc. have joined forces to present “A Taste of Summer”\, a drive through fair food frenzy on the Field Day of the Past show grounds June 6 and 7 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from the fundraising event will go to the Field Day of the Past moving campaign. \nDeep Fried will be on the Field Day show grounds selling corn dogs\, fried oreos\, funnel cakes\, kettle corn and cool\, soothing lemonade – all reminiscent of the fairs of our futures. Drive through the Field Day of the Past\, Gate F\, circle through the grounds until you get to the Deep Fried booth\, place your order\, pick it up and drive away knowing that you won’t be missing the fair experience forever. \nWe ask that anyone experiencing symptoms of the corona virus\, please refrain from joining us and request that everyone wear a mask\, as per the Goochland Health Dept. requirements. We also ask that you don’t stop to eat or visit while you are on the grounds \nDirections: Take I-64\, Exit #173\, exit south towards Broad St. Rd. go 1/8 mile and turn left down Three Chopt Rd. (Rt. 622 beside Wise’s Choice). Proceed to Gate F\, through the gate and follow the road towards the front of the field. \nField Day of the Past\, sponsored by the Rockville-Centerville Steam & Gas Historical Association\, has taken place for 28 years in its current location. After the 2020 show\, the lease ends and the association must find a new home. Funds are needed to help find a new home and to maintain and move all the collections. The association is a (501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. DESCRIPTION:Field Day of the Past will celebrate the holiday traditions of giving and sharing as it once again\nlights up the show grounds on Ashland Road in Centerville. Each year\, volunteers deck the halls\nand many of the permanent structures on the grounds in glittering\, glimmering holiday attire.\nIcicles drip from the Short Pump Garage and Short Pump Grocery\, a huge star beams from the\nfire tower. The gold mining equipment\, the sorghum building\, the smoke house and other\nbuildings twinkle and shine. Springfield Baptist Church stands in a soft glow and a lit tree hangs\nfrom one of the water towers and candles blossom in the windows of the Pullman car. \n“A Celebration of the Season” invites visitors to join in a family fun time celebrating the\nholidays. Inside the Educational Building\, a huge tree awaits some helping hands to decorate it.\nVisitors are invited to the tour the grounds on the tram. A bonfire lights up the night\, adding a\nsparkle to the surroundings\, and youngsters are invited to enjoy the warmth and roast\nmarshmallows over the fire. \nIn addition to the Educational Building\, the Short Pump Grocery is open to visitors\, as is the\nShort Pump Garage\, the log cabin\, and Springfield Baptist Church. Avis and Dr. Jim Lavender\nwill be greeting visitors in the church\, where Avis will be at the piano playing holiday favorites.\nStop in for some caroling! \nInside the Educational Building\, hot dogs\, drinks—both hot and cold—and chips can also be\npurchased. Proceeds from the sale of these items will benefit Goochland Relay for Life. Please\nsupport them! \nWe also have it on good word\, that Santa will be appearing during the evening. Bring the kids (of\nall ages) and visit with Santa to whisper you Christmas wishes in his ear. Afterwards\, visit the\nField Day of the Past Post Office and put your wishes in writing. Letters will be mailed to the\nJolly Ole Elf\, St. Nick\, and Santa has been known to reply to all who write to him from Field\nDay. \nAdmission to the event is canned goods for the Goochland Food Pantry. Last year\, visitors\nbrought in 190 pounds of food stuffs. We hope to top this in 2019 so please support them with\nyour donations. \nJoin in the fun on Saturday\, Dec. 14 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Field Day of the Past\nshowgrounds\, located at 1741 Ashland Road in Goochland.
